David Beckham will not join Perth Glory, admits club's owner

David Beckham en acción para LA Galaxy

The Perth Glory owner, Tony Sage, has given up hope of luring David Beckham to Australia following a chance meeting with the former England captain in London this week.
Sage bumped into Beckham at the premier of the Spice Girls-inspired stage show "Viva Forever" at London's O2 Arena and revealed he had been rebuffed when asked if a move Down Under was possible.
"I got the chance to chat to David, and of course I asked him about coming to Australia," Sage, who was a guest of Spice Girl Mel B, told footballaustralia.com.au.
"He looked me in the eye and basically said, 'That would be nice, but it's too far away from my businesses'.
"It would have been great to have him at Perth Glory, but it looks like that won't be happening. I just don't think he'll be coming to Australia, full stop."
Beckham's announcement came days after the Football Federation of Australia claimed it was in talks with the 37-year-old's representatives about the possibility of him signing a short-term deal to play in the A-League.
Despite those claims being almost immediately rubbished by Beckham and his agent, Sage and a number of Australian clubs had retained an interest in trying to sign the veteran midfielder.

David Beckham to ‘appear’ in Bend It Like Beckham musical

David Beckham has given permission for his name and image to be used in a Bend It Like Beckham musical.
The stage show will be an adaptation of the 2002 film of the same name — which was a big hit in the U.K. and U.S. and made stars of Keira Knightley and Parminder Nagra, whose characters play in a women’s football league.
The film and musical’s title refers to the soccer superstar’s ability to curve the ball into the net from seemingly impossible angles.
David, 37, won’t appear in the show but has given his blessing to the production, which will use his name and footage of his famous free kicks.
There may even be a song dedicated to the soccer hero.
Director Gurinder Chadha, who helmed the film, will direct the musical as well.
Howard Goodall, who has created theme tunes for TV shows such as Red Dwarf, will create the score, and Charles Hart — who wrote the lyrics to Phantom of the Opera — will write the lyrics.
Workshops for the musical are planned for early next year, but it isn’t expected to open until autumn 2013, or possibly 2014.
The Beckham family cannot avoid musicals at the moment as a new stage show based on the songs of David’s wife Victoria’s pop group the Spice Girls came out this week.
The 38-year-old fashion designer attended the premiere of Viva Forever! with her husband and their three sons, Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, 10, Cruz, seven, at London’s Piccadilly Theatre earlier this week.
The other Spice Girls, Mel B,, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel C. were also at the glitzy event to open the show, which was written by Jennifer Saunders and is produced by Judy Craymer.

Bend-er it like Beckham! David hits the town for a boys night out with James Corden, Freddie Flintoff, Jason Statham (and Rosie came too)

David Beckham is back in London - possibly for good - so no wonder his famous pals took him out for a night on the town.
The football star was spotted leaving Little House club in Mayfair on Thursday night, closely followed by celebrity friends James Corden, Freddie Flintoff, Jack Whitehall, Dave Gardner and Jason Statham - who took model girlfriend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley with him.
But, as a father of four and with the prospects of getting up early the next day to take care of his brood, David still looked pretty fresh-faced after his night out with the lads.

Footballer happy to let Victoria purse her fashion career
David Beckham is reportedly happy to "take a backseat" so his wife Victoria can realise her career dreams.
The pair has been the subject of intense speculation since soccer player David left Los Angeles Galaxy.
Now the sports star is apparently telling friends he wants to help Victoria further her prospects as a fashion designer.
“David wants to find Victoria the perfect environment to start the next chapter,” an insider told British magazine Closer.
“He’ll play for two more years, then he’ll take a backseat. Victoria dreams of running a fashion house in London and wants to open a store in New York too. They talked about New York, but decided on London because they’d always planned to return home anyway.”
The British stars sparked rumours they could return to their home country last week when Victoria was seen taking sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz for a tour around an elite school in London.
David, who also has daughter Harper with Victoria, is reportedly happy with the decision to move back to England in order to keep his wife and family happy.
“She’s thrilled David is putting her ambitions first. She’s made a lot of sacrifices for the sake of his career. David wants to show her how much he appreciated that,” a source explained.
So far, David has been linked to soccer clubs in France, England, Australia, China and the US.
